A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Incident
An additional two individuals have been arrested in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be pepper spray, as stated by police.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of theft and assault and a woman, 23 was detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals are still being held, the force said.
The arrests come after an investigation into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their luggage after getting out of a car park lift.
A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were later released.
Police arrested a man in his thirties for suspected theft and assault near the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Authorities were called at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding a number of individuals hurt by an irritating chemical believed to be pepper spray.
The attack - which authorities stated was a standalone incident and not being treated as an act of terror - caused train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
