Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer behind many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
