That Grisly Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Haunts Viewers
Among all the mature animated films I have ever watched, no other has remained with me as much as the terror-laced finale of a graphically gory as well as highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker crafted a dark, somber and frequently brutal world with some tiny , forlorn hints of hope.
While Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from an impulse to expand animation further, the filmmaker stated that it was rather an effort to express a widespread, multicultural theme about “the shared root of all wars.”
That idea is communicated through a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , openly based on a famous series of lovable figures.
Growing up in a culture built around militarism as well as the war machine, a lot of these animals are consumed by killing unicorns, thanks to a religious scripture that claims the bears they used to be rulers of the forest, before the horned beings expelled them.
A few haven’t fully fallen for the brainwashing, , would rather try out drugs and mate in the woods.
In contrast to their friendly counterparts, these bright beings show genitals and obvious libidos.
For one notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns becomes a road to control — and especially to dominance over his softer, nicer brother Tubby.
The character behaves aggressively and a seeming antisocial figure , and as horror takes over his group and kills his fellow soldiers individually, he takes progressively control on his own behalf, through ever more gory, harmful methods.
At the same time, the horned creatures are suffering their own nightmare, as an expanding, deadly beast in their forest.
“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the director stated. “Yet it turns into a more intense and melancholic film. And in the finale, it’s a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the more quirky movies from a renowned animator, that discover a naughty glee in allowing cartoon characters curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it becomes more akin to a bleaker movie from that artist, with increasingly graphic violence , a tangible connection to the actual horror of war.
Ultimately, it is a full-on Grand Guignol massacre.
The fear that makes the film an ideal spooky-season watch kicks in well before than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who want to see a film they have not watched previously, and who can handle a plot that offers no restraint.
See it with the lights off free from interruptions, and that ending will crawl deep within you and stay with you.
