The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The England national team will initiate their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they achieve the anticipated passage for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an English men’s fixture since May 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to host the national team for their first match on June 10, 2028.

England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top their group, their last-16 tie would take place at St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Competition Opening and Demonstration

The tournament was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they entered the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were held up with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will feature Wales if they make it.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for European club finals from the following campaign, will attract households and help engage a wider spectrum of fans.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a championship for the fans and a celebration of everything we value about the game – its fervor and ability to bring people together.”

More than three million passes, a record for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be offered to attendees.
