The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
